Can you still get a workout with an ebike?

If you live in a sunshine filled state such as California or Colorado, you know how much people love to ride the bikes outside during those beautiful days. In both states, many will experience nice days even in the depths of winter. If you live in one of the larger cities in one of these states, then having a bicycle is imperative for short commutes. Typically, when there is a lot of traffic, it may be much quicker to hop on your bike than to travel at turtle speed in your car. Not only is a bicycle a convenient method of transportation, it is also a much healthier alternative than driving a car. It has been proven by science that those who ride a bicycle each day, especially to work and back, experience better overall health and wellbeing than those who drive their car everywhere they go.

Electric bicycles are really starting to compete with traditional bicycles these days. What is an electric bicycle, you ask? Well, it is a bicycle that has been supped up with a small battery. This battery powers the drive system in the bicycle. There are many types of ebikes, but the basic idea is the same for all of them... a bicycle powered by a motor. The battery powers the motor and the motor powers the bicycle. There are levels of power that can be experienced. Either full power, almost like a moped, or assisted power which gives a pedaler a little boost as they pedal as normal.

What are the advantages of electric bicycles, you ask? Well there are many. For those who do not like to ride a bike for exercise but more as a simple and lower cost mode of transportation, an ebike is a great alternative. By giving you that added boost, you are increasing the efficiency of your ride. That means that you can get to your destination a lot faster than if you would have to pedal all of the way manually. This is one of the biggest advantages to owning an ebike.

Now you are asking, if the electric bicycle does some of the work for you, can you still get a good workout? Of course, it will not be the same tit for tat. In some ways, it is like comparing apples and oranges even though there is not a whole lot of difference between a regular bike and an ebike. There have been studies conducted to test whether or not a cyclist is still get a solid workout on their electric bicycle. What the study found, which is interesting, is that most of the pedalers in the test group travelled farther each week than the test required by almost double the distance. Another thing that was found was that all of the riders were healthier after the trial run. Before the study began, the group was tested for their aerobic fitness, their blood sugar levels and their body fat. The results of the study proved that all of these levels improved after using an ebike.
